Digital badging
I was design point person for digital badge creation as the company built its online learning platform. Badges serve as credentials for users on the platform who complete courses, attend conferences or participate in events.
I developed more than fifty different badge designs for content creators on the platform, working with authors, organizations and educators to scope their individual projects and deliver a design that fit their needs. Below are my favorite badges and notes on my process.
Design process
Badge needs could involve replicating a book cover, branding a conference or event, or building a client’s visual presence on the platform from scratch. Most clients built community pages on the platform to house their resources, so I extended their badge designs into miniature brands for their online presence.

Due to the range of potential needs, I set up a request form that sourced client info and helped me set a scope for their badge. I often did research on clients’ existing web presences and reached out to organizations for their style guides to make sure my designs accurately reflected their brand.
Templating
Requests could vary in size. Some clients also needed landing page designs for their profiles on the platform. To streamline the process for myself and future designers, I set up templates with general use guidelines to establish consistent badge sizing and layout.
